Lazy Old Dog

Yes I know, we spoke about this verse already but the lazy old dog part caught my attention and I had to dig deeper.

Stay alert; be in prayer, so you don’t enter the danger zone without even knowing it. Don’t be naive. Part of you is eager, ready for anything in God; but another part is as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire.” (Mark 14:38, MSG)

This is what I learned about those old dogs from the following website.

They aren’t really lazy, they are just older. While they used to run around after squirrels now they just need a short, slow walk. They are more sensitive to cold and heat and may need coats or blankets. Their vision fails and they don’t hear like they used to. That means they don’t obey well because they simply can’t hear you.

Now Dear Fellow Christians, have we lost our jest for chasing Christ like we used to? Have we forgotten that we still need the covering of Christ, the blanket of his love? Is our vision for holiness failing? Do our ears hear less and less about obedience?

Are we really lazy or just old in the faith, taking Christ for granted? Have we forgotten our first love?

But I have this [one charge to make] against you: that you have left (abandoned) the love that you had at first [you have deserted Me, your first love]. (Revelation 2:4, AMP)

Prayer- Lord, we trust you to uproot us from our passionless and stir our hearts to love you again. Amen.
