Leftovers

John 6:12When they had all had enough, He said to His disciples, Gather up now the fragments (the broken pieces that are left over) so that nothing may be lost and wasted. (AMP)

My siblings and I all liked crusts. We really did! But one day we just decided that we were not eating them anymore! And we didn’t. Instead, we carefully slid them onto the narrow ledge under the kitchen tabletop. Weeks passed uneventfully until the day company arrived. When mom extended the table a huge quantity of dried bread tumbled to the floor. Oh, boy!

What on earth was Jesus thinking, collecting all those leftovers? He wasn’t trying to fool his Mom. He probably wasn’t planning a tuna fish casserole. Perhaps it was for the poor? No. He wanted to be sure that those folks knew that they had been in the midst of a miracle. He taught them that a Savior, who loves enough to die for people’s sin, also loves enough to supply their daily need.

Watch carefully. There is a miracle going on now, right where you are.

Prayer: Lord, open our eyes to the wonder that is you.  Remind us that fragments are the remains of a miracle.  Amen
