Lights Aglow

My family gave me a Himalayan salt lamp for Christmas. It’s outrageously beautiful when it is on and there seems to be a butterfly embedded in one side. Oh I know it’s a trick of the shape and all, but the thing is, that very morning my friend showed me her beautiful, handmade butterfly quilt and this thought just flitted through my brain. “I wish someone would give me a butterfly today.”

It wasn’t a prayer really, just a longing in my spirit and I don’t even know why. The thought was a surprise to me. Yet at the end of that day, on the same day as my thought, someone gave me a butterfly. Only the Holy Spirit knew that thought. I didn’t ever speak it aloud, even to myself. But there it was; an answer to my longing.

Will the Himalayan lamp live up to its life-saving promises of healing from allergies, deodorized air, increased energy and more? Snopes.com says not and quite frankly I don’t care.

You see, dear Bessie (for I have decided to name her) is more than all the advertising. Dear Bessie is the answer to my unspoken prayer and I love her.

Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.”(Luke 11:36, NIV)

Prayer- Father God, thank you for answers we don’t even expect. Open our eyes and our hearts to what you do for us, even when we don’t expect it. Amen.
