Do you pay attention to the words of the songs you listen to?
Back when I was a young teenager, I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics of songs. I was having too much fun dancing to the drum beats! One day, while in the church parking lot before services, I was listening to a song and swaying to the music. My boyfriend, (now my wonderful husband), said, ” Have you listened to the words of the song? Do you know what he's saying?”
Until then, I hadn't paid much attention. It was just a fun dancing to the song. But I stopped and listened. Oh my goodness! This man, singing this song, was talking about something I had no business listening to then or now. I learned a good lesson that day.
Every song has a message. Listen carefully and choose wisely. For the most part, I now listen to Contemporary Christian music. I'm convinced God uses these songs to constantly help people through their day.
This past year, we suffered through two miscarriages. My heart has grieved so much. It hurt so much. It didn't seem possible. Until this year, I had been very fortunate. I have had four healthy babies. I have a wonderful life. Everything was suppose to be perfect. I needed somebody to understand. I longed for somebody to talk to. However, nobody really knew what to say or do. Some tried, but the only real comfort can come from God.
Read and listen to the words to Natalie Grant's song “Perfect People”:
There's no such thing as perfect people, there's no such thing as a perfect life, so come as you are, broken and scared. Be amazed. Be changed by a perfect God. That was God's message to me. He constantly reminds me through song, ” Amy, I'm here. I love you.” I will share some more songs that God has used to touch me in future posts.
