Makeover Madness

When I worked in TV land, I was subject to a makeover or two. It used to be as simple as flinging on a new outfit and cutting your hair, but not any more. A recent magazine article admitted that their ‘afters’ endured everything from teeth whitening, spray tanning, Botox, chemical peels and laser treatments.

Is it any wonder regular folks feel inadequate? And what happens to those ‘afters’ when they can’t keep up the look? God uses a different standard for makeover success.

1 Samuel 16:7b- God judges differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart (MSG).

Ezekiel 36:26 – I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. (NIV)

Jeremiah 31: 33-34-This is the brand-new covenant that I will make with Israel when the time comes. I will put my law within them—write it on their hearts!—and be their God. And they will be my people. They will no longer go around setting up schools to teach each other about God. They'll know me firsthand, the dull and the bright, the smart and the slow. I'll wipe the slate clean for each of them. I'll forget they ever sinned!

Prayer: Lord God, whiten our souls, spray us with the Holy Spirit, Botox our wrinkled ways, peel off our layers of self-protection and laser our sins away. In Christ. Amen.
