James Bartley is buried under this tombstone in Gloucester. James Bartley -1870-1909 – A Modem Jonah. People question the truth of his story but Jesus himself verified it.
Jesus said, “You’re looking for proof. All you want is something to titillate your curiosity, satisfy your lust for miracles. The only proof you’re going to get is Jonah-evidence. Like Jonah, three days and nights in the fish’s belly, the Son of Man will be gone three days and nights in a deep grave.

The British Admiralty records that James Bartley was swallowed by a whale in February, 1891, some two hundred miles east of the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic. He survived and this is his story.
As the whalers cleaned their harpooned whale, they noticed movement in the stomach. The ship’s doctor made an incision in the tough flesh. And out slid James, alive but not conscious. He was eventually revived but talked no sense for 3-4 weeks.
He had survived about fifteen hours in that whale and came out bleached white, hairless, and blind. Oh, and he never went to sea again. (Would you?)
