I am not a fan of four-legged small creatures like moles and other assorted critters. Today’s mole topic is prettier but more deadly. Well maybe not, at least it stays in one place, even though it is unwanted.
The Caper Spurge is a plant that flourishes where it ought not to. It wasn’t hard to find out about it. At Wikipedia, it even shows the picture. It’s quite nice looking actually but deadly as are so many things that look tempting.
It is also called the gopher spurge or plant and the mole plant. Everything from seed to root is poisonous. The funny thing is that goats can eat it and not be harmed but the poison passes into the goat’s milk. I guess that is where the old wives’ tale came from, the one about goats being able to eat anything.
Proverbs 5 talks about things that look good and yet poison our lives. I’ve included a few verses here but the wise will read it all.
For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave. (Proverbs 5:4-5, NIV)
Prayer – Lord, let us not be attracted to what looks good but is poison to us. Amen
