1 Peter 4:8, 9– Continue to show deep love for each other, for love makes up for many of your faults. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay for the night. (LB)
A Place to Stay
Refreshing the place, the rest for the weary:
The solitude quiet at the end of long day.
Rest for the traveler who sorely desires
Nothing better than friends, whose Christ’s love display.
These friends keep brewing His peace like a river.
Their home and their sheltering love, peaceful, still.
Their heartfelt acceptance the rest that is needed
To let Christ, our energy, gently refill.
As an itinerant speaker for Stonecroft Ministries, I appreciate hospitality more than most. It’s comforting to know that a comfy home awaits me after a long drive. The folks I stay with will also love the Lord. Our conversations will be God-honoring. The hostess might even drive me to the meeting so that I won‘t get lost. Again!
We’ve lost the gift of hospitality. We fuss and worry about the state of our homes and fight the head-fight of ‘Is my place good enough?’This is one question we won’t find in the Word!
Prayer: Father, thanks for opportunities to be kind to strangers and perhaps even entertain angels (Hebrews 13:2). Amen.
