Do you know a Negative Nellie? She always expects the worst to happen. She is a pessimist, a negative person. She distracts us with her unhappy, sad and discouraging attitude. To her, the glass is always half empty. Nellie finds something wrong with everything.
If she starts a diet and doesn’t lose weight fast enough to suit her, she blames the weight loss plan, the leader, the scale, the food; everyone and everything but herself. Her job problems lie with the boss, the co-workers, or the work load. It is never her fault. She focuses on clouds, gloom, and doom. She is not fun to be around.
When she gets bad news, she automatically presumes it’s a personal plot against her, not that she brings bad things upon herself. She can’t see a good outcome. To her, everything is an earth-shaking problem that will last forever.
Whether Negative Nellie or Norman, I’ve just described a pessimist. To the pessimist, everything is a problem. Other people and events are out to get them. They are losers because they never expect to be winners.
Is this you? Surely not! Rather, let us be like Christ.
Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 2:5, AMP)
[What, what would have become of me] had I not believed that I would see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living! (Psalm 27:13, AMP)
Prayer – Thank you God, that you gave us a hope and a future. Help us see it through your eyes. Amen.
