No Tobacco Day

Yes that is today. We all know by now that smoking is bad for your health and the health of those around you.

The World Health Organization has added a few more things to that danger list. For instance did you know that controlling the use of tobacco would help break the cycle of poverty, help end hunger, promote better agricultural practices and even combat climate change? (More guilt for the smoker.)

I have never smoked but I sympathize with those who do. It must be terrible to be caught in its trap. I expect it is rather like giving up chocolate but worse. I can have chocolate once in a while but a smoker never gets their tobacco back.

Perhaps this is God’s view from the heavens.

The men of Ai looked back and saw the smoke of the city rising up into the sky, but they had no chance to escape in any direction; (Joshua 8:20a, NIV)

Dear One in Addiction, whatever it might be, know that the Lord sees your struggle and he is anxious to set you free.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33, NIV)

Prayer – God, please give special help today to those struggling with an addiction they haven’t been able to shake yet. Let today be the day. Amen
