A brilliant Facebook comment showed nothing but a blank yellow writing pad. The heading said something like this. ‘What the world owes you’. And of course one had to deduce that the answer was ‘absolutely nothing.’ We must beware of what we expect or what the world wants to give us. Look at Abram who refused to take anything that would look wrong to others.
But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’ (Genesis 14:22, 23, NIV)
Or even Laban who refused to take advantage of a relative.
Laban said to him, “Just because you are a relative of mine, should you work for me for nothing? Tell me what your wages should be.” (Genesis 29:15, NIV)
Or even the Israelites who promised not to take what belonged to others.
The Israelites replied: “We will go along the main road, and if we or our livestock drink any of your water, we will pay for it. We only want to pass through on foot—nothing else.”(Numbers 20:19, NIV)
What do you expect for nothing? Take a good look at your life to be sure all is well between you and the folks around you.
Prayer- Lord may our expectations of life only show what should be ours, through Christ. Amen.
