Obedience Leads Others

So Elizabeth has her baby and hubby still is not talking. Only when he confirms the baby’s name as John, on the 8th day of his life, only then, after he writes this on a tablet, does he finally speak and his first words are praise!

When the baby was eight days old, they all came for the circumcision ceremony. They wanted to name him Zechariah, after his father. So they used gestures to ask the baby’s father what he wanted to name him.  He motioned for a writing tablet, and to everyone’s surprise he wrote, “His name is John.”  Instantly Zechariah could speak again, and he began praising God. (From Luke 1:51-64, NLT)

(Note: God was in the electronics business long before we were…note the tablet!!)

When this couple followed through on God’s request, see what happens to those around them.

And when her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had been very merciful to her, everyone rejoiced with her. Awe fell upon the whole neighborhood, and the news …spread. Everyone …reflected on these events and asked, “What will this child turn out to be?” For the hand of the Lord was surely upon him in a special way. (Luke 1:58-65, NLT)

We should expect nothing less when we are obedient to God.

Prayer – Lord, remind us to look for the same things when we are obedient to you.  Amen
