Off Key

Philippians 3:17-18Stick with me friends. Keep track of those you see running this same course, headed for this same goal. There are many out there, choosing other goals and trying to get you to go along with them (MSG).

It would have been funny if it weren’t so annoying! We saw choir mouths moving, but  could barely hear a word. An audience member sitting near us drowned out the whole music production with his loud, slightly off-key voice. In desperation, most of us sat with one ear covered, trying to close out the not-so-good in order to hear the very best.

That’s how it is in our Christian walk. Lots of voices will be calling for our attention. Some may even seem to wash over God’s personal call to us. We will only be able to recognize the voice of the Lord when we make an effort to tune out all the worldly babble around us. When we turn our ear in His direction, and listen carefully, He will sing to us above the tumult.

Psalm 32:7You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. (NIV)

What voice will catch our attention today?

Prayer: Father God, help us to hear you in spite of the unharmonious noise around us. Forgive us for those times we have started to sing the wrong songs. Thanks for getting us started on the right refrain once more. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
