Did you know that silver has antibacterial properties? It’s called the Oligodynamic Effect. Microbes don’t stick to silver. For example, a (real) silver dollar in a milk bottle will keep the milk fresh. Silver-lined water containers aboard ships/planes keep water safe for months. Before antibiotics, doctors used to put a derivative of silver in the eyes of newborns to prevent blindness.
Now we can more fully understand this verse.
For You, O God, have proved us; You have tried us as silver is tried, refined, and purified. (Psalm 66:10, AMP)
As we line ourselves up with God’s Word and let God refine us, the bacteria of sin won’t stick to us either.
