Did you know that the Bible contains at least 365 ‘Do Not Fear’ Statements? That’s one for every day of the year!  It seems to me that God saw fear as our big failing and so he compensated by giving us as many Do Not Fears as he could possibly cram into his word.

The most commonly quoted is Isaiah 41:10.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

And yet we fear. We fear stock market news, diseases we don’t even have yet, and other people. We fear this and that and everything else as well.

But hear David in Psalm 56: 10-11. He is already afraid and says so.

“Be merciful to me, my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit all day long they press their attack.  My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me”.

But then he gathers his wits about him and he says in the very next verse, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you” He praises God. “In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

He finishes with these thoughts. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust and am not afraid.
What can man do to me?

God loves us every bit as much as he loved David. Do not be afraid. David’s God is our God too.
