Pass it on

Matthew 10:9bFreely you have received, freely give (KJV).

All right! I admit it! I am a re-gifter! I disagree with social experts who insist that it is indelicate at the very least and down right rude at its worst. I re-gift. I learned it from no stranger. The following is an excerpt from one of my dad’s notes, written in 1946 (from Letters from North of 53 Degrees)

“Did Brenda like her present? Too big, I know. It would be nice to put them away and give them to her for next Christmas!” (I was one year old and got the same slippers for birthday and Christmas!) Yes siree! In our family, we pass it on!!! Why, even God encourages re-gifting!

Acts 20:35bI remembered the words of the Lord Jesus. It is more blessed to give than to receive (LB).

1 Peter 4:10As each has received a gift; employ it for one another, as good stewards of Gods varied grace (RSV).

My best gift was the good news of Jesus Christ. When I found out that Jesus died on the cross, and was raised from the dead just for me, I couldn’t wait to pass it on. We’re in the season of giving. Maybe our cupboard isn’t full of re-gifting items, but we have a heart full of the gift that really matters. Re-gift the gospel today.

Prayer: God, when we think of how the gift of Jesus changed our lives, we can’t help but re-gift. Put folks in our path that will listen, cherish and re-gift your message of salvation. In Jesus’ name. Amen
