Patient God

“You should ice the turkey.”  At least that’s what the cooking expert said. Now admittedly, I might have missed a line or two, but I immediately envisioned a turkey covered generously with chocolate frosting. Ah, no!

Perhaps she meant that I should sing (I-sing) while I prepared the bird?  Ah, no.

She meant that I should thaw the turkey in ice water.  Oh.

I am exactly the type of person Jesus had in the audience when he said this.

That’s why I tell stories: to create readiness, to nudge the people toward receptive insight. In their present state they can stare till doomsday and not see it, listen till they’re blue in the face and not get it. (Matthew 13:13, MSG)

Just because of people like me…

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9, NIV)

Prayer – Oh God, we are grateful for your patience… else where would we be? Amen
