My grandchildren love to hear my version of The Stone Soup Story.
“I’ll make stone soup,” the fellow said, but it’s better with some broth.
So Mrs. Jones brought brothy bones and stirred them to a froth.
And Betty Barter added peas, while Sir Frederick dumped potato
And on and on it went from each, till all shared a bowl and ate. Oh!
Just as the stone is base for soup, it’s the base of faith so true.
For stone that’s Jesus, he’s the rock. He died for me and you.
For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone,
and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” (1 Peter 2:6, NIV)
Prayer- God, don’t let us get carried away by the froth of religion, but instead cling to the substance, our corner stone, our Christ. Amen.
