Plugged In

Galatians 6:1Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual, should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted (NIV).

‘Instant-on’appliances use a huge amount of power. Since we are trying to do our little bit for the environment, we unplug most of ours and plug them into wall outlets only when we are actually going to use them. The radio in particular, fascinates us. It blares away. We pull its plug. Now totally powerless, for a few seconds it continues to play! The silly thing doesn’t even know that it has no power!

How like that radio we are. We think ourselves to be so spiritual.

We serve others. We help them out of their bad spots. We rescue the perishing. And all the while, doing is replacing our beingin Christ. We slowly drift away from our fellowship with God. Suddenly, before we know it, our malnourished, wizened, souls are so puny and dry that we fall into sin ourselves. If we are wise, we will stop the cycle. It’s one thing to save a little hydro. It is quite another to save our witness, our testimony, our souls.

Romans 8:8Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God (NIV).

Prayer: Lord, we are so human that it scares us. Give us courage to plug into your power again by confessing, repenting, and leaning on the Holy Spirit. In Christ’s name. Amen.
