No matter how politically correct we try to be we still offend others whose standards are different from our own. That’s just the way it is. And forever, some are offended by the truth of the Word of God.
Jesus stated these words and oh the response he got.
Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. (John 6:35, NIV)
First from the Jews.
At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?” (John 6:41-42, NIV)
Then from his very own followers!
On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? (John 6: 61, NIV)
Are you offended by the truth of the Gospel? Do you water it down to make it easier to believe? Stop kidding yourself.
Prayer – Lord, forgive us when we don’t really hear the true Gospel. Open our ears and help us take it and you to heart. Amen
