Power in Persisting

After my speaking engagements, a committee member generally offers a public word of thanks. This last one caught me by surprise, and even caused my eyes to tear up. You see, this lady thanked me for my perseverance throughout my life.  Finally someone understood my life’s goal.

My life has been full of suffering but in a way only God understands…that suffering produced in me perseverance, then character and finally hope. (Romans 5:3b-4, NIV)

Perseverance is the continued action or belief, usually over a long period of time and especially despite difficulties or setbacks. To me, that is success. Perseverance will do the same for you.

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:5, NIV)

Prayer- Lord, thank you for the grace to go through whatever suffering you allow in our lives, so that it might become hope in us. Amen.
