Pray Your Day

How do you start your day out? I like a long walk in the cool of the morning. It’s quiet then and I don’t have to talk to anyone but God. You see, no one else is ever awake. That’s what a 5:30 rising will get you; peace and quiet, freedom from distractions and a fine moment to talk to God.

What to say? What to say? Well, I say what’s on my heart. I tell God my worries and concerns, my desires and hopes and dreams. And I listen for him to tell me his. After all, he has a plan for my life and I want to keep up!

When do you pray? What do you say? The Bible offers this advice. It’s an old familiar passage updated to modern language.

“The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply.

Like this:

Our Father in heaven, Reveal who you are. Set the world right; Do what’s best— as above, so below. Keep us alive with three square meals. Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others. Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. You’re in charge! You can do anything you want! You’re ablaze in beauty! Yes. Yes. Yes. (Matthew 6:7-13, MSG)

So again I ask…What do you pray? What do you say?

Prayer-God, I love you. Thank you for loving me! Keep in your straight paths and help me to honor you every day of my life. Amen.
