Prioritize – What Matters Most To You?

In 1980, Christian musician David Meece wrote a beautiful song called We Are The Reason. It's suitable for both Christmas and Easter, with lyrics describing why God gave His one and only Son to save us all from our sins. We are the reason why he suffered and died. God loved us so much that redemption of our sins to unite us with Him became the number one priority above all things.

The first part of the song says, “As little children, we would dream of Christmas morn and all the gifts and toys we knew we'd find, but we didn't realize a baby born one blessed night, gave us the greatest gift of our lives.” The second verse tells more, “As the years went by, we learned more about gifts and giving of ourselves and what that means. On a dark and cloudy day, a man hung crying in the rain, because of love.”

Think back into your past. Do these descriptions fit you well? As little children, we are very egocentric individuals. It's all about ” me,” and what I'm going to get in this world. For most of us, as we grow and mature through life, we become less and less selfish and more and more self-less imitators of Christ. That's the ideal path. Yet some get led astray by goals, dreams, careers, money or prestige. For those individuals, peace and contentment is rarely found. Putting oneself ahead of others, rarely does one find what one is looking for, which is usually happiness. Without love, there cannot be happiness for love is from God and God is love. ( 1 John 4).

What do you value most in this world? Do you prioritize God and family first or does your career and your dreams and goals take precedence? We are told in Deuteronomy 6:5 (NIV), ” Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and all your strength.” Back in the previous chapter, Deuteronomy 5:6-7 (NIV), God says in the 10 Commandments, “I am the Lord your God who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.” That include the god of money, god of career goals, god of materialism, god of prestige and honor, etc., etc., etc. There is to be nothing, absolutely nothing set higher than your relationship with God.

Get your priorities in the right order and everything else will into place. God knows the desires of your heart..
