Promissory Note

Many friends offered up help this last three months and one I offered to repay in the distant future.

Promissory Note
A rhubarb pie is on its way.
It might not make it to Santa’s sleigh
But if you wait you can test your fate

With a one armed baker and expert pie faker.
I cannot repay you for all you’ve given
But say you’re both grand and suited for heaven.

So here I am sling free and not baking a pie yet. I hope they are patient. Well, actually I guess they have no choice!

The bakers in scripture are few and far between. In fact the only one of real substance is the one who displeased Pharaoh and had a nasty end.

“We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.”
Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.”

When the chief baker saw that Joseph had given a favourable interpretation, he said to Joseph, “I too had a dream: On my head were three baskets of bread. In the top basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.”

“This is what it means,” Joseph said. “The three baskets are three days. Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head and impale your body on a pole. And the birds will eat away your flesh.” (From Genesis 40: 8-19, NIV)

What promises have you made that you have not yet fulfilled? Get baking!

Prayer-Father, show us where to start fulfilling our promises whether they be mundane or life-changing. Amen.
