Ever eat at a buffet with a bunch of girlfriends? This is how it goes. One person (usually me) volunteers to stay with the coats and handbags while the others go up to the buffet. When they return, I go up. My thinking is that the longer away I stay from the food, the better.
Now back to those possessions. What on earth would I do if someone grabbed my friend’s purse? Scream? Yell? Sit in shock? Tell them calmly that their purse was stolen? I have no idea! I like my friends but I don’t care as much for their belongings as they do. I doubt I would enter into fisticuffs with a thief.
Forget about handbags. Who is guarding their minds? I can’t. They have to guard their own.
May I politely ask… who is guarding yours?
Paul said that we need to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5)
Jesus said- we must love the lord God with all our heart, soul and mind. (Matthew 22:37)
God examines our minds.
Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind. (Psalm 26:2, NIV)
And He also guards them.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7, NIV)
Yes he does guard them IF we do this.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:6, NIV)
Prayer – Father, help us guard our minds with all the intensity you can muster in us. Amen
