Quiet Days

Ron and I used to joke about having a 'quiet' day. That never happened very often. Even though we were technically retired, something always came up to use our hours, minutes and seconds.

Of course we had scheduled events like doctor appointments but our really 'quiet' days involved the drop-ins of life. You know the people who just drop in. Some called for a coffee, others for a listening ear and others just because they knew they would be welcomed.

We never turned people away. I often wonder what we might have missed if we hadn’t entertained on a whim. The Bible says we might even be entertaining angels unawares!  Who would want to miss out on that opportunity!

Hebrews 13:2-Do not forget or neglect or refuse to extend hospitality to strangers [in the brotherhood–being friendly, cordial, and gracious, sharing the comforts of your home and doing your part generously], for through it some have entertained angels without knowing it (AMP).

Now be not a timid host. Buy a few cookies or if you are in the baking mood, whip up a batch, freeze them, (deep so a guy or a gal on a snack rampage can't find them.) Serve up with a coffee, a tea or maybe a glass of lemonade. Recently, on my first birthday without Ron, I decided to throw myself a party. I tossed a lasagne into the oven, called a few friends and Voila! Instant fun

Hebrews 1:14- Are not the angels all ministering spirits (servants) sent out in the service [of God for the assistance] of those who are to inherit salvation? (AMP)

And maybe–you will find an angel gracing your doorstep!  Think of it! You are waiting to talk to angels and they are waiting to help you.

Prayer: Lord, help us show loving hospitality to all, even the ones who aren’t angels.
