Recrudesce

Recrudesce means to break out again. For example, diseases such as polio, which had been limited to a handful of countries, can recrudesce when conditions favor the virus.

We’ve certainly seen that in 2020, haven’t we; the conditions were favourable…  I think this applies to our spiritual lives as well.

Somehow the word itself reminds me of a cow chewing its cud! When a cow chews her cud, she regurgitates food she previously swallowed. It gets chewed and then swallowed again. Don’t ask me why. I just know that they do.

I do not want to conquer my sin and then keep chewing on it. I want it gone for good.

As an example, I seldom eat chocolate anymore because I don’t buy it or keep it in my home. However, I am not completely cured of chocolate because when the conditions are favorable, I eat it. Someone drops off a treat for me. I end up at a shop or a home where trays of the stuff await my perusal. But if I call out to God…he will keep me from recrudesce!

Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble.

(1 Peter 1:10, NIV)

How is recrudesce working where you are?
