Reeds of Humanity

And, weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on His head and put a reed (staff) in His right hand. And kneeling before Him, they made sport of Him, saying, Hail (greetings, good health to You, long life to You), King of the Jews! (Matthew 27:29, AMP)

A reed is a hollow stick from the grass family with a hollow. It grows on water or marshy ground. The stronger ones are used for walking canes but the Bible refers to reeds as symbols of our own weaknesses

A bruised reed He will not break, and a dimly burning wick He will not quench; He will bring forth justice in truth. (Isaiah 42:2, AMP)

We are nothing but a reed. Some are stronger than others and we lean on them but they are never enough to sustain us, for they too are only reeds. Only when God fills us with his Holy Spirit, are we able to withstand the attacks of life. God promises to be there for us, though we are bruised and burning out. We are just hollow reeds filled with nothing of importance until God calls us to be one with him.

Prayer-Father God, thank you for making us a way to be able to withstand the chores of life, strengthened by your presence in us, where the Holy Spirit lives to encourage and help us. Thank you God …Amen.
