Rejoicing in Answered Prayer

The last bit of Luke 11 finds Jesus driving out a mute demon from a man. People saw it happen, but did they rejoice? Not a bit. At first, they were amazed, but then they accused Jesus of being in cahoots with demons. Others want him to give them a sign from heaven!

They just saw a miracle and they want a bigger one, or one that suits their fancy. Jesus gives them fair warning.

“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it seeks rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ It finds the house clean and in order. Then it takes seven spirits more wicked than itself, and they go and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.”

(From Luke 11:24-26, NIV)

And no one is happy for the healed person, except maybe the healed person. Are you willing to rejoice when others get the answers you wanted?

You demand a sign from heaven to show you Jesus? How many signs, how many chances do you expect?

He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

(Luke 11:28, NIV)
