Remotely Possible

Wouldn’t it be great if life could be handled with a TV remote? We could avoid the scary parts, any skunky plots, and even the pathetic whining of sales pitches. We would just click and all the icky parts, including the commercials, would just disappear from our sight.

The disciples were remote alright, but the channel wouldn’t change.

As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”  (Matthew 14:15, NIV)

When we, like the disciples, want to send the troublesome parts of our life away, we find out that they just won’t budge.

That’s because life is not conquered by a TV remote. If we want our lives to change, we’ll have to get up off the couch, ask God for advice and then carry it through, especially in the hard places and especially when it involves troublesome people.

The disciples saw trouble and Jesus saw a place for miracles. Take another look at the TV screen of your life and watch for the miracle!

Prayer – Lord, grasp us in your grace while we stop trying to change channels. Amen!
