This week I realized the real purpose of coffee afterward church. It is to TEST your faith! Honestly, the sermon was encouraging, the music uplifting, and the fellowship marvelous. Then a few of us went to our favorite coffee shop.
There we discovered long line-ups, inexperienced staff and bad food. My coffee and my bagel travelled through the take-out window perhaps to find themselves in Montreal. The clerk insisted that my order wasn’t in the system. Of course it wasn’t. It was on its way to Montreal!
I wasn’t alone. All the recently churched found their tempers fraying ever so slightly as orders were rescinded, returned and refused. Isn’t it odd that we can face the deepest difficulty and expect God to help us but the smallest upset puts us in danger of forgetting everything we ever knew about Christian behavior? God even wrote reminders about that.
Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His precepts, and His statutes which I command you today. (Deuteronomy 8:11, AMP)
Prayer: Lord we always recognize you in the big troubles of life. Give us grace to do so in the small ones too…In Christ. Amen.
