So what did you promise yourself this year? Oh I know; the usual four or five makeovers… Lose weight, exercise more, stop smoking, and control our spending, ad nauseam.
Question: Do you know that ad nauseam means?
Answer: Something that’s been done so often that it is tiresome or annoying.
Yep. That’s us. Aren’t you tired of getting no where with those things? I sure am. Here’s a thought. What if we asked God what he wanted us to change this year? The answer most likely will be very different from ours.
So set aside a few minutes to discuss this with God, or better still, let him talk while we listen, just like Samuel did.
So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” (1 Samuel 3:9-10, NIV)
Here is a version just for us.
The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “(Your name here)!” Then (your name here) said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” (From 1 Samuel 3:9-10, NIV)
Prayer – Help us to hear your voice, Lord, when you speak to us! Amen
