Rewarded Past

As part of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, France remembered the sacrifice of all compatriots who came to liberate French soil, some losing their lives in the process.

As part of this, the President of France awarded my friend’s dad with the rank of Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour.  This distinction is the highest national order of France and was awarded to illustrate profound gratitude for liberation in WWII.

Now that liberation happened more than fifty years ago, yet finally, these gallant men are rewarded for the work they did then. Surely they had stopped thinking they might be rewarded for their gallantry. Instead, when that seemed impossible and long forgotten, the reward came.

We cannot always count on rewards here on earth. They might not happen at all. But there is one sure reward we can count on.

Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:12, NIV)

Prayer- Thanks God for remembering our lives for you, and for giving the reward of life eternal with you, forever. Amen.
