Yes, friends. Police filmed a guy roller-blading on a major highway in Ontario this week. Not only that, he was moving against traffic. Wrong on so many counts.
We live as though our life is not precious. Just today I had to stop dead on a four-lane highway while two teens on their cell phones stepped in front of all traffic. They didn’t even look for cars. They were totally paying attention to their phones and trusted that the rest of us would take care of their lives!
Then, I witnessed a half-ton truck stop dead at a green light to chat with the cute girl next to him in a convertible. I guess they were planning a date. (It could have been a date with death!!
Why do we do what we know is wrong? What makes us do the crazy thing that threatens our lives and the lives of others?
I wanted to warn all those people, but then I too would have been parked illegally. Anyway, I doubt they would have listened. Some people thrive on foolishness and chaos. The trick is not to let them suck you into the vortex of their over-the-top living.
Look at what Paul had to go through, just trying to be obedient to God.
I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Lord, help us to use the common sense you gave us.
