Roof Cave-In

My back porch roof collapsed. I empathize more closely now with Mrs. Luke 5:19.

But finding no way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him with his stretcher through the tiles into the midst, in front of Jesus.

(Luke 5:19, AMPC)

And when they could not get him to a place in front of Jesus because of the throng, they dug through the roof above Him; and when they had scooped out an opening, they let down the [thickly padded] quilt or mat upon which the paralyzed man lay.

(Mark 2:4, AMPC)

We learn from these verses that:

  1. They felt the necessity to get their friend in front of Jesus. The crowd was in the way.
  2. They chose the roof entrance. There was no roof entrance.
  3. They dug through the roof and lowered their friend through the hole they made.
  4. Did they follow him? Did they have handy ropes? We don’t know.

But Mrs. Luke 5 is thinking… I love Jesus, but…who will fix this mess? Should I brush the dirt off Jesus’ head? I hope folks won’t blame the dirt on my lack of vacuuming!

We too love Jesus…but…the circumstances in our lives make us crazy. How will we react in the face of Jesus?
