Walk or Ride?

If you travel a lot you are probably familiar with those moving sidewalks they have at airports.  You can step on this sidewalk, put down your luggage, relax and let the machine do all the work.  But if you have seen this type of transport, you know that not everyone takes advantage of the free ride.  Many people choose to pick up their luggage and walk the distance in their own strength.

Many people try to follow Jesus out of their own strength too.

The message of the Old Testament was God with us.  The message of the New Testament is God in us.  God with us is good, but God in is is so much better.

The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. Romans 8:11

Most of us go to great lengths to hide our weaknesses; we try so hard to do it all on our own.  Like the people at the airport who choose to walk instead of ride, we think we can get there faster in our strength.  Or we don't want to be seen as feeble or wimpy.  But Jesus says:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  2 Corinthians 12:9

Trying to live our your faith and walk with Christ in your own strength is ridiculous.  The Bible says, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”  Galatians 5:25

Why would you walk in your own strength when you could ride with the Spirit?

Are you walking or riding today?
