Forget big boxes with sparkly wrapping paper and flowing bows in multicolor splendor. Sometimes the best gifts arrive in drab recycled toilet tubes. That’s what happened to me this year.
My brother sent me a toilet tube wrapped heavily, securely in tape. I thought it was his yearly gift of homemade turtle candies but no! Instead, wonderful handmade pen and a handmade seam ripper.
It wasn’t shiny looking on the outside but it made my heart shine with gratitude when I found what was inside.
Shiny paper or toilet paper roll…what matters is the gift inside. Just like Jesus.
Do the small things of division really matter? We differ on a manger of wood, stone or straw; or the baby born in inn, house or stable of house. Does it matter in the long run?
Think of what we contain…the light of the Christ. Think of what we look like…some of us not so shiny at all. The inside is the important shining.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16, NIV)
Prayer- Father give us your grace that we might shine no matter our shape, size or wrapping. In Christ. Amen.
