Short Term Memory Loss

I have STML, short term memory loss.  I think I also have LTML, or long term memory loss. (smiles)  It seems that I can't remember anything.  I was talking to a friend last night and I don't know how many times I just completely forgot what I was saying.  Don't ask me what I had for dinner last night; I don't even know what I had for breakfast this morning.  I've tried to blame this on my kids – they just sucked the brain right out of me.  But I know women who haven't had kids who have this same memory loss.  It can't be age, because I'm not old (again smiles).  I don't think it just a female thing either.  Maybe it's comes from being too busy?  Some of the Israelites had a problem with STML too.

Psalm 105 was written as a psalm of praise for all God has done.  David recounts Israel's history from the time God made the covenant with Abraham until they entered the land of Canaan.  God provided for His people every step of the way, for he remembered his holy promise given to his servant Abraham. (vs. 42)  Then we move to Psalm 106.  This psalm is all about Israel's memory problem.

The Israelites witnessed the many miracles in Egypt that God performed in order to release them from Pharaoh's grip.  But then they reached the Red Sea and they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses. (vs.7)  They rebelled there at the Red Sea because they forgot what God had just done in Egypt.  They grumbled in the desert because they soon forgot what he had done (vs. 13) and they made a golden calf because they forgot the God who saved them. (vs. 21)  The Israelites even refused to enter the land of Canaan when they first arrived, because they did not believe his promise. (vs. 24)  Why didn't they trust God???

Why don't we trust Him?  Why do we have those moments when we feel alone and hopeless?  Why do we live with fear and anxiety?  Is it because we have forgotten all that God has done for us?  Go back to your “beginning” and recount all the ways God has provided from that moment until now.  He is faithful!  The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Heb. 13:8)  He loved and cared for you in the past and He will continue to love and care for you.  Don't suffer from short term memory loss; begin to praise Him today.

Praise the LORD, the God of Israel,

who lives from everlasting to everlasting!

Let all the people say, “Amen!”

 Praise the LORD!

Psalm 106:48
