Did you hear about the two silk worms that were in a race? They both ended up in a tie!
Christians are sometimes compared to caterpillars that eventually turn into butterflies. I think I like the tie thing better. Silk worms are useful while butterflies are just pretty. Let’s examine this for the moment.
A few of us linger in the caterpillar, or silk worm stage. We don’t want to change and are quite content to use everyone else’s time, energy and resources to support our laziness.
Most of us are in the process of change; not yet butterflies and certainly not ties. We are putting our whole life before God. We are following His instructions and moving toward completeness in Him.
Unfortunately, still others have gone as far as they care to. They give up and settle right where they are, neither one nor the other. I guess they fit my dad’s description of change.
“You can’t make a sow’s ear into a silk purse.”
Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. (Romans 12:2b, MSG)
Prayer- Lord, forgive our dithering. Shake us up into the finest silk ties ever. In Christ. Amen
