Starving Speakers

This is what happens when you are the guest speaker. Everyone wants to be near you because that day, for that hour, you are the big shot in the room. You are tired and hungry, but even still you are expected to be patient and kind to the crowds around you.

I learned years ago to nibble all the way through the food line up, in case I don’t get another chance to eat. The other option is to eat before you get there!

Jesus and his disciples had the same problem.

Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. (Mark 3:20, NIV)

It’s amazing that he was so patient with everyone; even those annoying Samaritans and Pharisees. I can see why the disciples sometimes were cranky. They were hungry!

This puts a new slant on this verse!

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? (Matthew 25:37, NIV)

Jesus could have honestly said… “Right this minute because I missed lunch!”

But instead he replied…

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:40, NIV)

Prayer – Oh God, your grace is more than we can think or ask! Amen
