I’ve been clearing out stuff. I expect you know what I mean; stuff that collects in our homes because we don’t know what to do with it or that we inherited or that we used to like because it fit our bodies and lifestyle of the day.
The trouble is that we can only put so much out to the curb at one time. Municipal rules reign here. So, of course, I am stuffing the plastic garbage bags as full as I possibly can. This has backfired on me a few times. The plastic explodes when they are overfilled and my stuff spills out all over.
Rather like gossip, really. We contain it in our mind or brain, but then the very stuff we should be throwing out into the forget pile, overloads and somehow escapes into the ear of a willing listener.
Perhaps we need industrial plastic bags for both our stuff and our gossip.
A gossip goes around telling secrets, but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence. (Proverbs 11:13, NLT)
Prayer- Father, help us see how hurtful a gossip story might be, and strengthen the ‘plastic bags’ of our minds. Amen.
