Tailoring by Jesus

My friend kept putting off the family patching jobs. Finally, on a winter’s day she hauled out all the clothing that needed repair and diligently patched it all. To her dismay, she found that her children had outgrown every stitch.

Maybe that’s why Jesus wasn’t a fan of patching things.

He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. (Luke 5:36, NIV)

That’s not to say that he didn’t like other kinds of sewing. He stitched lives together and mended relationships… but patching, not so much.

There’s a great lesson there for us. We can’t patch Jesus into our old lifestyle, bad habits and sin.
Let’s go for new all over!

Prayer – Father, show us where we’ve been making do by patching you into our own plans and give us the grace to change. For the Christ who patches not. Amen
