‘Oh, I’ve so much to tell you,’ cried my walking pal, Bernice. She started her telephone chit-chat right away but I quickly intercepted her conversation.
‘Let’s wait till we get walking,’ I suggested.
‘Oh. You want us to talk on the walk?’ She laughed and we did.
Lots of us talk about how we expect to change the world. We murmur about the way others run it. We whine when things do not go our way. Oh how we talk about what we can or will do…..whenever we get around to the walking part. Our discontent spreads like wildfire.
2 Timothy 2:16-17a-But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, and their talk will spread like gangrene (ESV).
Changing the world requires more than just talk.
1 Corinthians 4:20-For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power (ESV).
We have to put action with our talking
1 John 3:18-Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth (ESV).
Bernice and I could have spent all our time talking and missed out on our beloved walking time. In fact we’ve made that mistake more than once. We don’t plan on letting it happen again.
How about you?
1 John 2:6-whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked (ESV).
Prayer: Lord, forgive us for wasting time in idle chatter when you have work for us to do. In Christ’s name. Amen.
