The Length of Perseverance

Perseverance is steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties. Perseverance is not a long race. It’s a bunch of short races strung together into a marathon. How do I know this? I experience it in my everyday life

Take healthy lifestyles for instance. You try a weight loss plan that takes off twenty pounds in a few weeks, but surprise! That’s about how long it takes to put those pounds back on. Like everything else, weight loss takes perseverance and longevity. It’s a series of healthier eating, eating regularly, and  not denying yourself certain foods.

And during these bouts of persistence, we will slip and eat too much or miss a day of exercising…but than we get at it again.

It’s just like serving Jesus. We persevere toward the goal of becoming like Christ and little by little, with a steady as she goes attitude…

We glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; and then perseverance, produces character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

(From Romans 5:3-5, NIV)
