The Aroma of Fresh Bread

Now and again, I like to bake a loaf of bread. All the family enjoy a treat. Flour and yeast are mixed together with water, honey and other ingredients. I find honey is a better mix then sugar and liquid honey is even better. I then knead the loaf and leave it in a warm place to rise. I go through this once more. The second time it goes into the roasting dish to rise then into the oven it goes.

When it comes out my wife has taught me to wrap a damp cloth around it to stop the loaf from getting too crusty. When the bread has cooled, we will change the damp cloth for a dry one. There are days when it does not reach this stage. The loaf will be attacked by a sharp knife, and then plastered with butter and raspberry jam. There is something about eating freshly baked bread.

Have you ever smelt the aroma of freshly baked bread? It tends to go right through the house and often lingers. My wife Hine is deaf. Because of this, her sense of smell is acute. Since one of her senses is not working quite right, the others increase to somehow compensate. Because of this she has an over-sensitive nose. The smell of freshly baked bread is stronger for her.

When the Holy Spirit comes around, we can often smell him. He leaves a perfume that also lingers. It smells better than freshly baked bread. Why not taste and see, then you will know that the Lord is good? A good way to do this is read your Bible. To love someone deeply we have to get on his or her wavelength. To experience their perfume and presence in our lives will often sacrifice.
