It’s bad enough that I love it, but now chocolate has been found to be a natural cough suppressant! Oh, wait, I feel a cough coming on! My food enemy now has a real reason to be in my house! OH! NO!
What other items do we ‘justify’? What about movies that only have a ‘bit of bad language’ or a tithe that we ‘short change’ because we saw a little table we adore? What about lottery tickets that a friend gave us or a magazine with embarrassing pictures or racist articles? Oh yes, we all know how to justify our little sins, don’t we?
He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight." (Luke 16:15, NIV)
Prayer- Lord, point out our inconsistencies to us before they become big justification keepers. For Christ who consistently lived (and died) as our role model. Amen.
