The Most Private Room

Matthew 6:6: But when you pray, go into your [most] private room, and, closing the door, pray to your Father, Who is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open. (AMP)

It seemed that children were in every corner of the house. I was desperate for privacy and wanted my husband to expand our old farmhouse in any direction! I came up with dozens of totally impractical schemes that involved knocking down walls, extending porches or lifting roofs. But God, in His infinite wisdom, showed me the bathroom. There in that small private room, I found my “alone” space with God where He taught me to be content with what I had.

Changing our house would have set us up for different problems, the least of which would have been a big mortgage. The real issue had never been about the full space outside of me. When circumstances and surroundings seem to be crowding us in, the answer is never in more, bigger or better. It’s about closing the door of our most private room and listening to God.

Prayer: Lord, help us choose to go into our “most private room.” We want to hear your voice. Help us to be so full of you on our insides, that we will be content with our outsides. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thanks for the reminder to be content. God has been so good to is and I needed to remember to rest in that truth.
