The Put Off

God blessed me with lots of new clothes ones so now I have to toss the 'what is not so good' away. After all, the closet is only so big, right?

But I love those tattered old bits. They've accompanied me through thick and thin, hardship and joy. The colours are faded but do I care? I still see them in their original vibrant hue. I am blinded to their tiredness. I snip off ragged edges but they fray again. Hmmm.

Old clothes are like old habits. It’s time to give up some of them. What old habits are hanging around your body? I won't even begin to discuss that. Take it up with God. You might like to read all of Colossians 3.

Colossians 3:8- 9- But now put away and rid yourselves [completely] of all these things: anger, rage, bad feeling toward others, curses and slander, and foulmouthed abuse and shameful utterances from your lips! Do not lie to one another, for you have stripped off the old (unregenerate) self with its evil practices (AMP).

Colossians 3:12- Clothe yourselves therefore, as God’s own chosen ones (His own picked representatives), [who are] purified and holy and well-beloved [by God Himself, by putting on behavior marked by] tenderhearted pity and mercy, kind feeling, a lowly opinion of yourselves, gentle ways, [and] patience [which is tireless and long-suffering, and has the power to endure (AMP).

Prayer: Lord, when we examine our spiritual closet through your eyes, we find it to be shabby and full of junk. Please point out the biggest offenders and help us toss them out. For Christ’s sake. Amen.
