The Star

Matthew 2:1-2after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising. And have come to pay him homage (NRSV).”

All right, I admit I’m a little out of touch with the entertainment world. Still, my children thought I’d really missed the mark when Meat Loaf was advertised at a local dinner theatre. Am I the only one who thought it came with a choice of mashed or fries?  Is everyone aware that Smashing Pumpkins is not a fall fair sport?

So I am an entertainment information dud. I can live with that. After all, the world’s celebrities rise and fall on a regular basis. I much prefer to know and belong to the Person whose star rose in the East so many years ago, and is still shining.

There is no need to panic if we are not up on the latest movie, music or theatre release. Let’s not worry if our favorite entertainment equipment is video, records or eight track! Relax, even if news programs and entertainment magazines rave about people we don’t recognize. As long as we know Jesus as our personal Savior, we are following the right Star!

Prayer: Oh dear God, thanks for the birth of your Son, Jesus Christ. We are most blessed to serve a Person with true star power. Amen.
