It was unnerving to drive past the hoard of policemen and police cars surrounding a building on our local side road. Thankfully, signs displayed this message. “Danger! Training in Progress!”
Okay, so I won’t find myself on the front pages of the local newspaper because I was in their line of fire? Whew. What a relief! The situation looked a lot worse than it was.
That’s true of life in general. We see things happening around us and often take flight into worry and distress.
We hear something like the news that Jesus’ disciples heard and we think ‘Danger!’
“A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. (John 16:32a, NIV)
But Jesus follows all that kind of news with promises like this one in verse 33.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33, NIV)
Prayer- Lord, may we rest in your promise and trust you in our trouble, always remembering that it our training is in progress. Amen.
